Elements That Can Give A Leather Watch Band A Vintage Look

by Bojana Graus

If you like the look of your watch but aren't fond of the band, you don't necessarily need to get rid of the entire timepiece and shop for a new one. Instead, one option is to remove the current band and replace it with a different one. Doing so can change the overall look of the timepiece. There are all sorts of products that may appeal to you, so it's best to visit a retailer that sells lots of watch accessories. Leather cuff bands are a popular choice for many people and are available in lots of styles. While many of these bands have a new look, others appear vintage — which can suit those who like a broken-in look when it comes to clothing and accessories. Here are some elements that can give a leather watch band a vintage look.

Leather Color

One factor that can give a leather watch band a vintage look is the color of the leather. Whereas a new-looking leather band may be dark in appearance, a product with a vintage style will often be lighter. This suggests that the leather has aged over time, likely due to exposure to the sun — even if the product itself is new. Instead of dark black leather, for example, the leather may be somewhere between black and gray.

Distressed Marks

In addition to the color of the leather, this material may have a few distressed areas that give it a vintage look. Just as you can buy distressed clothing and furniture, the distressed marks on a leather watch band will have been produced by the manufacturer — but are designed to look as though the product has experienced a lot of wear over the years. The distressed areas will often appear along the edges. For example, if you have a leather band that is a medium shade of brown, the edges of it may appear even lighter.

Dull Metal

Leather watch bands have metal in a few different areas. In addition to the buckle, there may also be rivets, grommets, and other decorative elements. When you look at vintage bands, you'll notice that these metal pieces have a dull appearance. While the metal on a newer-style leather band may have a high shine reminiscent of stainless steel, this won't be the case with a vintage piece. About Me

Finding Appropriate Attire

For years, I worked for a company that didn't care much about what I showed up in for work. I would wear really casual clothing, such as a tank top and a pair of cut off shorts. Unfortunately, once I got a better job, my new employer was less-than-enthused about my choice of duds. She explained that they were trying to make the customers feel comfortable and improve the store culture and asked that I wear more professional attire. I started shopping for items that would look neutral, and I was able to find some pieces that I looked great in. Check out this blog to learn more about finding appropriate attire.
