3 Cool Things You Must Have From The Army Surplus Store

by Bojana Graus

When the military needs specific items for armed members of different forces, they manufacture what they need in bulk quantities. When the different sects of the military use all they need or change the design of certain necessities, they liquidate the merchandise at military or army surplus stores. If you love combat-themed items, survival gear, or just well-designed tactical clothing and accessories, these stores hold a wealth of shopping opportunities for you. If you are planning a trip to an army surplus store for the first time, there are a handful of cool things you are not going to want to pass up.

MREs

MREs (Meal, Ready-to-Eat) are lightweight, self-contained meals that the army carries with them during combat so soldiers in the field have access to nutritional food. Some MREs can actually be really appetizing, and some maybe not so much. However, it is a little fun to pick up a few MREs to try with your family just for the experience. Most of the meals only require that you add hot water to a pouch and you can eat them right from the package after a quick stir. Because of this, MREs are an excellent camping food or extra food source to stash in the pantry for an emergency situation.

Hydration Pack

A hydration pack is a pack that you carry on your person to stay hydrated while you are on the go. Some of these hydration systems are pretty awesome, some having attached tubes to use as straws while you are on the go, which is pretty cool. These hydration packs come in really useful if you like to hike or spend a lot of time outdoors. They are lightweight in their design so they do not weigh you down and keep you hydrated while you are on the move.

Army Patches

Do you like to show your respect of the armed forces in every way you can? If so, you will love the fact that some of the surplus stores you will stumble across will have actual patches that boast the different emblems of the army ranks and achievements. These patches can be sewn onto your favorite jacket or vest, stuck on a backpack or purse, or just pulled out to show off to your buddies when you want something to talk about. Some people even collect these things, so if you get the chance to buy them in bulk and resell them, you may even be able to make a profit.

About Me

Finding Appropriate Attire

For years, I worked for a company that didn't care much about what I showed up in for work. I would wear really casual clothing, such as a tank top and a pair of cut off shorts. Unfortunately, once I got a better job, my new employer was less-than-enthused about my choice of duds. She explained that they were trying to make the customers feel comfortable and improve the store culture and asked that I wear more professional attire. I started shopping for items that would look neutral, and I was able to find some pieces that I looked great in. Check out this blog to learn more about finding appropriate attire.
