Features To Look For When Choosing Reusable Cloth Training Pants

by Bojana Graus

If you use cloth diapers currently and your child is ready to start potty training, then you likely want the perfect training pants for your child. Well, the good news is that you can still utilize cloth-style pants. However, there are some essential features you want to look for when picking out the trainers. Keep reading to learn about a few that you are very likely to need.

Large Pocket Openings

Cloth training pants are very similar to reusable diapers. You use the outer training pants and switch out the inserts. If you have used a different variety of diaper, like the basic cotton varieties, then you may not be familiar with this. Basically, the inserts are cotton or hemp pads that are placed inside a pocket on the diaper. The inserts come in different sizes and are usually bigger and thicker as your child ages.

You will need the thicker and larger types of pads for your toddler. A toddler's bladder can only hold about one-third that of an adult. However, as your child learns to use the toilet and hold their urine, more and more urine will be released at one time. So, not only will you need larger pads, but your training pants must have bigger pockets to hold the pads.

Bigger pockets are also a must-have for overnights. To keep leaks at bay, it is wise to place two inserts in the pocket before bedtime. As your child gets older and has one to two "big" accidents a day instead of frequent smaller ones, two pads may be necessary as well.

Breathable and Quick Drying

Completely waterproof training pants are not advisable if you want your child to understand what it feels like to be wet. This is important when it comes to potty training since your child is more likely to train if they feel uncomfortable when they have an accident.

While it is important that your child feels wet, you do want the trainers to dry quickly. Otherwise, you will need to change them often, and this will defeat the purpose of using the cloth trainers in the first place.

Make sure to invest in cotton trainers without any sort of plastic covering on the inside. Also, think about purchasing pants with a thinner material so they can dry quickly.

Trainers that are made with elastic sides are best as well, so your child can take them on and off. If your child is just starting the training process, then snaps are a good choice too. This way, you can easily pull off the pants without smearing waste on your child's legs.

About Me

Finding Appropriate Attire

For years, I worked for a company that didn't care much about what I showed up in for work. I would wear really casual clothing, such as a tank top and a pair of cut off shorts. Unfortunately, once I got a better job, my new employer was less-than-enthused about my choice of duds. She explained that they were trying to make the customers feel comfortable and improve the store culture and asked that I wear more professional attire. I started shopping for items that would look neutral, and I was able to find some pieces that I looked great in. Check out this blog to learn more about finding appropriate attire.
