3 Tips For Dressing Slimmer When You're Full Figured

by Bojana Graus

While not everyone was born the size of a supermodel, you can still look and feel good in almost anything you wear if you choose carefully. With the average size of a woman in the United States being a 12 to 14, many women are forced to wear plus size clothing. By choosing the right clothes, you could instantly make your figure look a size or two smaller. The key is to choose the right colors and styles of clothing that will hide your worst features and show off your best features. Here are a few ways to do just that.

Find the Right Color

Color can make a huge difference when it comes to dressing for a slimmer look. In order to choose the right color for each part of your body, decide what area you like the worst. If your top half is the heaviest, then you want to pick a dark colored shirt to help hide your midsection. If you are heavier on the bottom, then you want to choose a dark color for the lower half of your body. The same is true for the opposite as well. You want to accentuate the features that you like by wearing lighter colors in these areas. If you like your waist, then a bright colored belt helps accent your waist.

Pick the Best Pattern

Of course solid colored items are much easier to choose from, but if you want to step up your wardrobe, you are going to need some clothing with a little extra flare. Patterned clothing can be very hard to wear when you are overweight unless you know exactly what to wear. Large patterns can make you look even heavier. By sticking with smaller patterns, you can end up looking smaller. Additionally, horizontal stripes can make you look wider, so you want to stick with vertical stripes. If your shape is uneven, you may want to separate your patterns. For example, if you have a large lower half, then wearing horizontal stripes on the top half can help balance out your shape.

Don't Be Scared of Shapewear

What you wear underneath your clothes can make a major impact on how your clothes ultimately fit. High waisted underwear may not look great but it can help even out bulges underneath your clothing. Additionally, you want a bra that is going to lift your breasts. Saggy bras only add to the problem if you already have a large midsection. You don't want your bust and stomach to look like one big bulge. A lot of stores now sell shapewear that is made to help pull in extra skin. You can instantly look like you have shed a few pounds by wearing the shapewear underneath your clothing. Contact a business, such as ooh la la couture, for more information.

About Me

Finding Appropriate Attire

For years, I worked for a company that didn't care much about what I showed up in for work. I would wear really casual clothing, such as a tank top and a pair of cut off shorts. Unfortunately, once I got a better job, my new employer was less-than-enthused about my choice of duds. She explained that they were trying to make the customers feel comfortable and improve the store culture and asked that I wear more professional attire. I started shopping for items that would look neutral, and I was able to find some pieces that I looked great in. Check out this blog to learn more about finding appropriate attire.
